The Tenerife
Entertainment Awards would like to point out some of the guidelines
and processes that lead to the categories, nominations and voting
for the awards: |
| |
1.
Categories:
The awards are open to acts that fit into any of the following
categories with the following classification:
BEST MALE SINGER: male solo singer, can be resident in a venue.
Billed as themselves.
BEST FEMALE SINGER: female solo singer, can be resident in a venue.
Billed as themselves.
BEST TRIBUTE ACT: act of one or more members, billed as the tribute
or them as the tribute.
BEST BAND: more than two members with instruments. Can be resident
in a venue.
BEST GROUP/DUO: two members with or without instruments can be
resident in a venue.
BEST COMPERE: one person who is resident in a bar, karaoke bar,
cabaret bar or hotel, that hosts the evening with or without instruments.
BEST VARIETY ACT: a variety show act such as dancers, drag artists,
mime artists, hypnotist, magic show, comedian, etc.
BEST RADIO DJ: any Tenerife based presenter on-air on a British
station with studios based in Tenerife.
BEST CLUB DJ: any Tenerife based DJ in a club or fun pub.
BEST NEWCOMER:
any new act for any category within the last 12 months.
The names of as many acts/artists as possible were collected and
collated into these categories, by asking the public via our facebook
page, asking the local entertainments agencies for their rostas,
and adjusting our own database from previous awards, to ensure
its as comprehensive and accurate as possible.
To qualify for the nominations, an act/artist must have been based
in Tenerife and performed during the 12 month period from 1st
April 2009 to 31st March 2010. |

2.
Nominations:
Since 2007, the Tenerife Entertainment Awards has had a nominations
panel that decide who is nominated for each category.
The nominations panel is made up of members of the local press,
entertainments writers, agents, and people based here that have
been a part of the scene in various different ways, but no longer
perform.
In total there are over 30 members of the panel, who having received
the database of categories, choose their top five for each category
accordingly.
When these top five are submitted from each member, the total number
of nominations is collated to finalise the ones with the most, to
get the final nominees for each category, which then leads to the
voting.
Each member of the panel is asked to see as many of the acts/artists
in the database, and to advise us if any act has been missed so
they can be added, and the other members can be informed.
The only exception to this for 2010, is the new category for best
Dj in a club or fun pub, which was decided by posts on our facebook
page. |

3.
Voting:
Every year the awards are run, the voting system is changed slightly
following feedback from the previous event.
It was decided this year NOT to use a premium SMS number for text
voting, as at the last awards, it was deemed as getting to expensive
if people wanted to vote for several categories.
Also, there was only the facility for Spanish and Uk network mobiles
not Irish network mobiles, making it unfair to any Irish nominees.
This years text number 656872279, is a standard movistar mobile
number, accessible from any network in the world, at 15 cents for
Spanish network texts, and international text rates from other countries.
It is also a non-income earning number to keep costs to voters as
low as possible.
Other cost saving exercises for the public have been implemented
in the following ways:
With the popularity of facebook as a social networking media, it
was decided to try it as the form of voting for one category. Best
Variety Act was drawn out of the hat, so that voting for this category
is solely via facebook and not by sms.
The new category for Best Dj in a club or fun pub, has also been
allocated to one sector, tour operator reps as they are in the clubs
and fun pubs every week and see the Dj's on a regular basis.
Best Newcomer is being decided by the nominations panel for the
second awards running.
Each year there is a live category at the event, in 2008 it was
Best Tribute Act, won by Paul Stone, this year there are two - Best
Male and Best Female singers. Voting will be carried out in two
ways on the day, via sms from people listening to the event live
on Oasis Fm and on-line, and by a paper vote in the venue.
All nomination and voting stats will be available after the event
for anyone to see, as they have been every year. |

4 Other:
Any act/artist may request to be removed from nomination or voting
for the awards, for whatever reason they deem necessary, and the
Tenerife Entertainment Awards will remove them as requested.
Any act/artist nominated in the live performance categories, will
still eligible for voting, if for any reason they are unable to
perform. |
